As Christians we have often heard it said that we serve an awesome God, a great God, or a faithful God. I am sure that at times throughout each Christian’s walk with the Lord in this life, whether the walk has been but a short hop or whether it has been around the world innumerable times, a little niggling doubt arises in the mind of the believer as to the authenticity of their faith. The Apostle Paul expected us to be troubled by doubt at times as he told us in 2 Corinthians 13:5 ” Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith..” A little doubt might just stand us in good stead.

Why I Believe in God

This is imperative reading for any true Christian believer who encounters the need to contend for the faith. It is presented as if it were a conversation or debate with a known unbeliever and is done with great care, yet with an undeniable conviction of the Truth as correctly understood by one whose sight God has chosen to restore.

Furthermore, it effectively addresses and puts shame on many of the grossly erroneous messages which issue forth from the publications and pulpits of the modern and post-modern church. It is a potent refutation of the evil message of the evolutionary ‘church’ by Christian means and through simple application of the fact that God has revealed sufficient and overwhelming evidence of His Almighty sovereignty in creation.

This is certainly worth setting aside the time to read, irrespective of your theistic position. It is a remarkable piece.

The Importance of Sound Doctrine

IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE to overemphasize the importance of sound doctrine in the life of a Christian. Right thinking about all spiritual matters is imperative if we would have right living. As men do not gather grapes of thorns nor figs of thistles, sound character does not grow out of unsound teaching.

The word doctrine means simply religious beliefs held and taught. It is the sacred task of all Christians, first as believers and then as teachers of religious beliefs, to be certain that these beliefs correspond exactly to truth. A precise agreement between belief and fact constitutes soundness in doctrine. We cannot afford to have less.

WILL ROGERS ONCE OPINED that a sure way to prevent war would be to abolish peace conferences.

Of course Will, as usual, had his tongue in his cheek; he meant only to poke fun at the weak habit of substituting talk for action. Still there is more than a little uncomfortable truth in his remark.

This above all others is the age of much talk. Hardly a day passes that the newspapers do not carry one or another of the headlines “Talks to Begin” or “Talks to Continue” or “Talks to Resume.” The notion back of this endless official chatter is that all differences between men result from their failure to understand each other; if each can discover exactly what the other thinks they will find to their delight that they are really in full agreement after all. Then they have only to smile, shake hands, go home and live happily ever after.

Atheist: How to become one

To the true believer, it is a preposterous suggestion. “How to become an atheist”. However, out in the big wide world, unsurprisingly this will not seem such a ridiculously useless instruction.

Ray Comfort has been taking the Gospel to unbelievers (and sharing it with believers) in a variety of effective ways for a long time. It is rarely a quiet affair, certainly never boring, but then neither is the subject of his ministry boring, which is the Gospel of the Saviour, Jesus Christ. Since the internet has become a ‘place’ which is frequented regularly by people in search of information regarding almost all things pertaining to our lives, it has provided an additional platform for Ray’s work in proclaiming the Truth of the Word to unbelievers and in particular those of atheist persuasion.

God’s Sovereignty in the Salvation of Men

ROMANS 9:18.
Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and
whom he will he hardeneth.

THE apostle, in the beginning of this chapter, expresses his great concern and sorrow of heart for the nation of the Jews, who were rejected of God. This leads him to observe the difference which God made by election between some of the Jews and others, and between the bulk of that people and the christian Gentiles. In speaking of this he enters into a more minute discussion of the sovereignty of God in electing some to eternal life, and rejecting others, than is found in any other part of the Bible; in the course of which he quotes several passages from the Old Testament, confirming and illustrating this doctrine. Let’s open our Bibles this morning to 1 Timothy chapter 4. As you know, we are studying this great epistle of Paul to Timothy and we are coming back to it after a little bit of a break. Looking at chapter 4…I want to read to you the first five verses so you’ll have in mind the theme of our message today. Paul writes:

“But the Spirit speaks explicitly that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies and hypocrisy having their conscience burned with a hot iron, forbidding to marry and commanding to abstain from foods which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving by them who believe and know the truth, for every creature of God is good and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving, for it is sanctified by the Word of God and prayer.”
