“To Him Give All the Prophets Witness” Acts 10:43

Peter in Acts 2, Stephen in Acts 7, and Paul in Acts 13 delivered sermons that summarized the entire history of the Old Testament. And the subject of each of their sermons was the Lord Jesus Christ. How I wish that all men and women could see this blessed fact: — Jesus Christ and him crucified is the theme of Holy Scripture! — “To him give all the prophets witness!” And to him give all the apostles witness. Every book of the Bible speaks of Christ. Let me show you just one thing revealed about Christ in each of the 66 books of Holy Scripture. Christ is the theme of every text, the subject of every page, and the message of every subject set forth in Holy Scripture. But space will permit me to show you just one thing revealing Christ in every book of the Bible.

If we would understand, profit from, and rightly use the Word of God, we must understand everything written in the Sacred Volume as it relates to the glorious Person and saving work of the Lord Jesus Christ. Never be satisfied with your understanding of any text in the Book of God until in it you have “found him of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus,” the Christ, the Son of God. The Book of God is a Book about Him!

  1. It is in the Old that you can see Christ revealed. Paul did not have the New Testament of course, he wrote most of it explaining the Gospel that has been revealed and fulfilled in Jesus Christ. To find Christ in the Old Testament is such a glorious blessing to see the spiritual fulfilment of all the types and shadows; never to be reinstated. So many of my friends only live in the New and do not eat the meat of the gospel revealed in the Old.
Johann Albrecht Bengel, great Biblical scholar and favourite of Spurgeon and John Wesley said that: “nowhere did Moses not write about Christ.”
Nicodemus did not understand the Old spiritually fulfilled, although he knew the Scriptures. He could not put two and two together unless he was born again and washed by the Holy Spirit.
    Joh 3:10
Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?

Jesus would always refer to the Prophets and Moses writing about Him. When He walked with the Emmaus disciples He quotes Scripture and revealed to them about the Christ that will suffer and die on the cross.
    Luk 24:27
And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
The Old Testament reveals Christ progressively in God’s redemptive plan until the fullness of time has come and Christ fulfilled the Old Testament Covenant of Grace. Christ is Abraham’s Covenant Child.
    Gal 3:16
Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
Through Christ we are Abrahams Covenant children; the eternal Covenant of Grace.
    Jer 31:33
But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
The New Covenant is a re-confirmation of the Abrahamic Covenant that was made with blood and Christ confirmed it with His blood in the New.
    Luk 22:20
Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

Oh, that we only can have the Spirit to understand that it is not a material Kingdom but a heavenly One, Abraham looked to the heavenly Jerusalem and not to an earthly temporary reign of Christ but that Christ is reigning now forever. Literalism has destroyed the gospel.
