The Important Leadership of Mothers

My son, do not forget my teaching,
but let your heart keep my commandments,
for length of days and years of life
and peace they will add to you.Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you;
bind them around your neck;
write them on the tablet of your heart.
So you will find favor and good success
in the sight of God and man. (Proverbs 3:1-4)

O dear mother, you have a very sacred trust reposed in you by God! He hath in effect said to you, “Take this child and nurse it for me, and I will give you thy wages.”

You are called to equip the future man of God, that he may be thoroughly furnished unto every good work. Those who think that a women detained at home by her little family is doing nothing think the reverse of what is true.

Scarcely can the godly mother quit her home for a place of worship, but dream not that she is lost to the work of the church. Far from it, she is doing the best possible service for her Lord.

Mothers, the godly training of your offspring is your first and most pressing duty.1

Charles Spurgeon

Christian mothers! your child may be far away from the sheltering home, voyaging on the stormy sea, or dwelling in some distant climate beyond your voice. But he is still within the reach of the mightiest power a mother can wield- the power of prayer! And although you cannot throw around him your maternal arms to shield him from the evil of the world, you can invest him with your wrestling believing petitions, and secure on his behalf the Arm which encircles the globe, and is mighty to save. Oh that the Church of God may be filled with such praying mothers!

  1. Moving thoughts expressed by Spurgeon and Winslow. It must truly be a great honour for any woman to be chosen by God to experience the wonders of motherhood, and to be so blessed as to be able to express her heartfelt and natural love toward her children.

    It is such a great, great sadness that there are so very few mothers of this worth in our modern world, in which society has ripped the very soul out of motherhood by replacing it with godless gender equality.

    God bless all the wonderful real moms and grandmothers in the world. Also, God bless the real dads and grandfathers who make it possible for those mothers to serve God by them loving their children in God’s way.
