Quoting Charles Spurgeon . . .
Take care my dear friends, how any of you meddle with God’s Word.I have heard of folks altering passages they did not like. It will not do, you know, you cannot alter them; they are really just the same. Our only power with the Word of God is simply to let it stand as it is, and to endeavour by God’s grace to accommodate ourselves to that.
We must never try to make the Bible bow to us, in fact we cannot, for the truths of divine revelation are as sure and fast as the throne of God.If a man wants to enjoy a delightful prospect, and a mighty mountain lies in his path, does he commence cutting away at its base, in the vain hope that ultimately it will become a level plain before him? No, on the contrary, he diligently uses it for the accomplishment of his purpose by ascending it, well knowing this to be the only means of obtaining the end in view.
So must we do; we cannot bring down the truths of God to our poor finite understandings; the mountain will never fall before us, but we can seek strength to rise higher and higher in our perception of divine things, and in this way only may we hope to obtain the blessing. (Sermon 241)

This quote of dear Spurgeon also brings to mind that we cannot take Scripture and try an use it against people.
For example some time way back I had someone use Scripture to insult me.
John 8:44″ You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” Because this person was cross with me, for not believing in her doctrines and this person mostly rejected the Doctrines of Grace and called them Gnostic. I was called a Calvinist for believing in Biblical doctrines of grace and respecting men Like John MacArthur. This was done on a blog.
Typically this person did what Spurgeon says “We must never try to make the Bible bow to us” they did indeed try to make the Bible bow to them. This is so wrong and so unloving, we are to keep the commandments of Jesus at all times. and also then the 2nd commandment in Matthew 22:39 ” And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” at all times.
These were just the thoughts that came to mind as i read dear Spurgeon’s quote.

Great post and something that rang true for me. Many of my old room mates in college would challenge the Biblical account on creationism or dispute aspects relating to homosexual sins, or get into questions on miracles, etc.
I believe that if you take out even one sentence of the Bible, you are challenging the entire Biblical account. Our Lord and Savior is perfect, therefore His Text is perfect. Questioning it is like questioning Him.
I appreciated reading your post, great job!
