Mat 7:15-20  “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.  (16)  You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?  (17)  So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit.  (18)  A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit.  (19)  Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.  (20)  Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.

If a certain Bible Teacher continually Teaches error (re: Essential Christian Doctrine,etc) after they, the the Bible Teacher or Professing Christian, has been warned by the Body of Christ of this Error— it would be very UNLOVING & BIBLICALLY INCORRECT if we, God’s People, didn’t lovingly WARN other FELLOW BROTHERS & SISTERS in Christ (like Jesus, Peter, Paul, etc. See below: (Naming names below) of these BIBLICAL ERRORS. We are to WARN others out of LOVE for the TRUTH (Eph 4:15, Jude 1:1-4) & for the ETERNAL SAFETY of God’s People, His Flock (Acts 20:28-32, 1 Peter 5:2-4, John 10). We Warn others of the DANGERS of these Teachings &/or False Teachers who are PREACHING & TEACHING things that are CONTRARY to God’s Word— those who are keeping people Focused on this Life, on the BROAD PATH leading to Destruction (Hell) with their: Vague Watered-Down-gospel of Half-truths, etc. It does NOT matter what the INTENTIONS or MOTIVES of these Ministers are either— i.e. A False Teacher might be a WELL MEANING PERSON, who’s Agenda might NOT be out to Intentionally hurt God’s People. In fact they might believe 1000% that they are doing God’s Work. But whether they’re out to Deceive people on Purpose or Not, it doesn’t matter— as this False Teacher might be a Victim of Satan’s Lies himself— being that he is DUPED & DECEIVED! And there are many Ministers who are NOT doing what God’s Word Exhorts them to do and that is to GUARD the SHEEP (God’s People, His Flock) that has been ENTRUSTED to THEM. (Acts 20:28-32, 1 Tim 6:20-21, 1 Peter 5:2-4).

Naming Names – Paul Warns Believers about 8 False Converts  in 2 Timothy

If A Preacher or Teacher is NOT Correctly Teaching Essential Christian Doctrine (the True Gospel of Jesus Christ, etc.) and the Teaching is keeping people focused on this Life & on the Broad Path to Hell, OR if they are Prophesying Falsely (Deut 13:1-18, Deut 18:20-22), we are to “MARK THEM” (NAME NAMES of False Teachers & Deceivers)— of which Paul did 8 TIMES in 2 Timothy seen below.

  • Rom 16:17-18 (KJV) “MARK THEM which cause DIVISIONS & OFFENCES CONTRARY to the DOCTRINE which you have learned; and AVOID them. For they that are such SERVE NOT our Lord Jesus Christ, but their OWN BELLY (personal interests); and by GOOD WORDS & FAIR SPEECHES (smooth talk) DECEIVE the HEARTS of the SIMPLE (i.e. innocent, unsuspecting, naive, undiscerning).”

False Teachers must be Silenced as Titus 1:10-14 states. They are: Rebellious, Mere Talkers, and Deceivers:

  • Titus 1:10-14 (NASB) ”For there are MANY REBELLIOUS MEN, EMPTY TALKERS and DECEIVERS, especially those of the circumcision, who MUST be SILENCED because they are UPSETTING WHOLE FAMILIES, TEACHING things they should NOT TEACH for the SAKE of SORDID GAIN (dishonest). One of themselves, a PROPHET OF THEIR OWN, said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.” This testimony is true. For this reason REPROVE THEM SEVERELY so that they may be SOUND IN THE FAITH, NOT paying attention to JEWISH MYTHS and COMMANDMENTS OF MEN who TURN AWAY from the TRUTH.” One of them, a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.”

The Apostle Paul “Name Names” of 8 Deceivers— for the Protection of the Church— in 2nd Timothy. Here are the 8 Deceivers:

  • 2 Tim 1:15 Paul said, “This you know, that all those in Asia have TURNED AWAY FROM ME, among whom are PHYGELLUS and Hermogenes.”

  • 2 Tim 1:15 Paul said, “This you know, that all those in Asia have TURNED AWAY FROM ME, among whom are Phygellus and HEMOGENES.”

3 – Hymenaeus – 2 Tim 1:17
  • 2 Tim 2:17 Paul warns, “And their MESSAGE will SPREAD LIKE CANCER. HYMENAEUS and Philetus are of this sort..”

5 – Jannes – 2 Tim 3:8
  • 2 Tim 3:8 Paul warns, “Now as JANNES and Jambres RESISTED Moses, so do these also RESIST THE TRUTH: MEN OF CORRUPT MINDS, DISAPPROVED concerning the FAITH..”

6 – Jambres – 2 Tim 3:8
  • 2 Tim 3:8 Paul warns, “Now as Jannes and JAMBRES RESISTED Moses, so do these also RESIST THE TRUTH: MEN OF CORRUPT MINDS, DISAPPROVED concerning the FAITH..”

7 – Demas – 2 Tim 4:10
  • 2 Tim 4:10 Paul warns, “..for DEMAS has FORSAKEN ME, having LOVED this PRESENT world, and has DEPARTED for Thessalonica–Crescens for Galatia, Titus for Dalmatia.”

8 – Alexander the Coppersmith – 2 Tim 4:14
  • 2 Tim 4:14 “ALEXANDER THE COPPERSMITH did me MUCH HARM. May the Lord REPAY him According to his WORKS..”

If Paul didn’t make any Judgments, and warn fellow Believers about these various people in 2 Timothy (above), then some of the True Believers might have unknowingly gotten involved with these people, and led astray in their Worldly ways, etc.

Jesus Warned us about a Great Deception in the End Times (Matt 24:11), it is here, Right Now (2 Tim 4:3-4, 1 Tim 4:1). There are MANY Preachers who Preach a Feel Good gospel which keeps people on the BROAD PATH (Matt 7:13-14), and focused on this Temporal Life (2 Cor 4:17-18, Gal 1:6-12) vs what Jesus taught us in Luke 9:23-24; Matt 10:37-39.

Phil 3:18-19 “For I have told you often before, and I say it again with Tears in my eyes, that there are MANY whose CONDUCT SHOWS they are really ENEMIES of the CROSS of CHRIST. They are headed for DESTRUCTION. Their god is their Appetite, they Brag about shameful things, and they THINK ONLY ABOUT THIS LIFE HERE ON EARTH.”

Jude 1:1-4 (NKJV) “Jude warns, “Jude, a Bondservant of Jesus Christ (Half Brother of Jesus), and Brother of James— To those who are CALLED, SANCTIFIED by GOD the FATHER, & PRESERVED in JESUS: MERCY, PEACE, and LOVE be MULTIPLIED to you. Beloved, while I was VERY DILIGENT to WRITE to you concerning our COMMON SALVATION, I found it NECESSARY  to WRITE to you EXHORTING you to CONTEND EARNESTLY for the FAITH which was once for all delivered to the SAINTS. For CERTAIN MEN have CREPT IN UNNOTICED, who long ago were marked out for this Condemnation, UNGODLY men, who TURN the GRACE of our GOD into LEWDNESS and DENY the only LORD GOD and our LORD JESUS CHRIST.”

  1. That is why I left the Word of Faith Church I was attending here in Louisville, KY nearly 4 years ago. I had been in the WOF for over 25 years. I have spoken out against the WOF both in public and on WordPress.com on my Blog page Rev Jeff’s Words. See 2 Timothy 2:15. I whole heartedly believe that everyone that preaches the Gospel in any way shape or form should adhere to this admonition that Paul gave to Timothy.

  2. Great article! False prophets and apostles abound ! As do false teachers and deceivers. I truly believe that what we are seeing in all of this , is the apostate church of the end . So ready for a new “experience” , Satan will happily oblige this false church through the unholy trinity that will no doubt be coming soon…

      Welcome back !! Yes indeed i have been working through the book of Jude and indeed Apostasy is bigger now then ever. The type false teachings are not new, they were there in the NT times too. The scale of these things seems so so big and growing bigger by the day and hour.

    There is a book that all Christians should study. Its a secular book, but it explains why people like to herd together. Its called Crowds & Power by Elias Canetti. All false prophets & cults know about its teaching & apply. Christendom is as rotten as the rest. In John ch 4 Jesus tells the Samaritan woman that He is FINISHED with ritualized & organized religion. From now on His disciples will worship God in spirit & in truth. When you want to pray, go into your room. Your body is the Temple of God. You are the Priest of that Temple & you offer up spiritual sacrifices to God. The early Church met from house to house. Keep it small, keep it spiritual & the false prophets will stay away, seeing no profit.

    Constantine started the rot for Christians in Rome by “converting” & then converting the pagan temples into “Christian” churches & the rest is history.

    The mega churches in America are just like the Roman, Anglican, Greek, Russian churches. Its ALL about MONEY & POWER.

    Let’s get back to basics & this time OBEY what Jesus said!

    There exists no good reason why a Christian would need to study or gain instruction from any secular book. Of course there is no prohibition on the Christian in reading certain secular works, but it could not be additionally edifying and would only be of interest and must be read with cautious discernment. All truth is held within Scripture and Scripture alone is sufficient to instruct the believer. (2Ti 3:16, 17 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work. ).

    To enable the Christian to discern truth from error, the Christian must study and gain an understanding of the Word of God, which is held in the complete 66 books of the Christian Bible. God, through the Holy Spirit, will lead the Christian into all understanding, something which we cannot add to by studying the work of men.

    Further support for this is from the early scholar Athanasius who wrote: “The sacred and inspired Scriptures are sufficient to declare the truth” (Athanasius, Against the Heathen, part 1, 1, 3). Now, I am not contradicting myself by saying that we should study Athanasius rather than Elias Canetti, but it does lend support to the point of sola Scriptura.

    In addition to Rome having converted pagan temples into “churches”, it was also the addition of pagan rituals, secular beliefs and traditions to the Roman faith which led the people astray. Those were all simply continued in the churches which later split off from the Roman church.

    Yes, you are correct in stating that the Charismatic Pentecostals, among which are most of the mega churches all over the world, form an integral part of this deception in the church. Even in our own country we have false preachers of the same ilk. Mega stars such as Angus Buchan, Kobus van Rensburg, Elsa Meyer, Stephan Joubert and the like, have millions of deceived followers of their secular, word faith, prosperity, social and humanistic gospel. Satan uses the most effective means of deceiving people, and that is from within the church (Act 20:29, 30 I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; 20 and from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them ).

    But, all this considered, there has always been a firm, solid and true church throughout all of church history. Jesus made it clear that nothing would be able to destroy His church, (Mat 16:18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. ), and that no one would be able to deceive His children sufficiently so as to lead them to eternal death (John 10:27, 28 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. )

    Praise the Lord for His mercy in providing us with His eternal, indestructible Word and His true church.

  6. Very many that cannot work miracles have appeared. We must expect a new wave of false prophets, those that work signs and wonders. It’s not over yet until after these arrive. Whether by Satanic means or via modern technology they will deceive people. Hold on to the cross of Christ and the testimony of Jesus with all your might until the storm is over.

      • I understand what you mean. Pretend miracle workers. People who have the semblence of holiness but deny the power thereof. The phonies. What I am talking about are the Powers in Heavenly Places, and the Great Deceivers, men here on earth who know they are dragging people to hell with them. These will turn water to blood, and summon fire from heaven, always pointing the the Beast as if he were God. Their lies will forever cling to them. Our job is to stay clear of their lies and sorceries. The hardest tests are yet to come.
